An Art Deco sculpture of two dogs, on a marble base, dating from around the 1920s.
One dog lies with its paws stretched out in front, while the other stands over it, head lowered, as if the two are in quiet conversation. The long muzzles, feathered coats, plumed tails and elegant lines are typical of the borzoi, a favourite subject of Art Deco sculptors. The figures are cast in spelter (régule) with a bronze-toned patina, warm and coppery on the raised areas and darker in the recesses, with traces of green.
They stand on a rectangular base of banded marble in warm rose and cream tones, with a black marble edge. A classic piece for a mantel, console or sideboard, and equally good on a desk or bookshelf.
