A hand-carved onyx bear, walking forward with a green fish held in its jaws.
The bear is carved from creamy white onyx with warm, honey-coloured banding that runs through the body like markings in the fur. Every surface is worked with fine incised lines to suggest a thick, shaggy coat, from the broad head and rounded ears to the heavy shoulders and paws. The fish is carved from a separate piece of deep green stone, which stands out sharply against the pale body and gives the piece its focal point.
The stone is polished smooth on the head and shoulders, while the back and hindquarters are slightly more matte. It has real weight and presence, and works well on a desk, shelf, console or coffee table, alone or among other animal figures.
