A signed bronze portrait head of an older man by Mette Hector, modelled with a rough, expressive surface.
The face is built up from pressed and scored planes rather than smoothed, so the furrowed brow, heavy cheeks, broad nose and set mouth catch the light in a changing way. The ears, brow and chin are strongly modelled, and the neck flares into an open, bell-shaped base. The patina is a deep, smoky brown-grey with a warm bronze tone on the raised areas. A touch of natural green verdigris shows on the crown.
It has the directness of a sculptor working from life, and real presence on a plinth, shelf, sideboard or desk. It works equally well in a classic interior or a modern one.
The piece is signed by the artist, Mette Hector, on the inside of the base.
