A hand-carved wooden elephant, caught mid-stride with its trunk curled down and forward.
The figure is carved in warm, reddish-brown hardwood with a rich, glossy patina and a visible, flowing grain. Fine incised lines texture the trunk, forehead and flanks to suggest wrinkled skin, and the domed head, folded ears and small inlaid eyes give it a calm, characterful expression. The curled trunk tip and the slightly lifted stride give it movement. The tusks and eye inlays are bone.
It is a handsome shelf, console or desk piece, and works well alone or with other carved animals.
