This vintage bottle vase was made by Höganäs Keramik in Sweden and is marked on the base. It has a tall cylindrical body, a short flared neck with a wide, flat, plate-like rim, and a single looped handle that springs from the shoulder and curves back to the body. The form is simple and sturdy, like a small studio jug or oil bottle.
The glaze is the main feature. The body is covered in a deep, speckled blue-grey glaze with flecks of cobalt blue, rust brown and cream, and a glossy, slightly uneven surface. The wall has a pressed, hand-worked texture, with soft dents and ridges that catch the light. The neck, handle, shoulder band and foot are left in a lighter sandy beige, with fine horizontal throwing lines and darker streaks that contrast strongly with the dark body.
The handle is hand-formed, with a slightly irregular, organic curve. No chips, cracks or repairs are visible in the photographs.
It is a good size for a few stems, dried grasses or branches, and also works as a sculptural object on a shelf, windowsill or sideboard.
