This round-bodied ceramic bottle vase dates from the mid-century period. It has a full, spherical belly, a short stepped neck and a softly flared rim, set on a small foot ring. The proportions are compact and balanced, and the shape sits comfortably in the hand.
The glaze is the main feature. Across the body it is a textured olive-grey with a slightly crawled, granular surface, with glossy highlights where the glaze has pooled. On the shoulder, a band of fine horizontal ribs breaks through to a warm caramel-brown, which gives a quiet contrast to the cooler grey-green below. The neck, rim and foot are glazed in a smooth, deeper brown.
Its size suits a single stem, dried grasses or a few branches, and it works just as well on its own on a shelf, windowsill or sideboard.
